Finding a connection

TenneT is the operator of the electricity grid in the Netherlands and has the task of constructing an electricity grid at sea to connect the offshore wind farm to the electricity grid on land. Offshore platforms to connect Hollandse Kust Noord are now in production.

Finding a connection

Connecting Hollandse Kust Noord

For the connection, a platform will be built at sea to which the wind turbines will be connected. Here the voltage level is transformed from 66 kiloVolt to 220 kiloVolt. Two 220 kiloVolt cable systems will also be laid to the transformer station and there will be a new transformer station for converting 220 kiloVolt AC to 380 kiloVolt AC. This transformer station will be connecting both Hollandse Kust Noord as Hollandse kust West Alpha to the grid on land. The transformer station will set up in such a way that a third wind farm may be connected to it in the future and that it can be converted into a high-voltage station.

Cutting steel

Cutting of the first steel elements for the top of the offshore transformer station for the Hollandse Kust Noord wind farm has started. During a first steel cutting ceremony on Thursday 24 September, the joint venture partners ENGIE Solutions - Iemants and TenneT officially started steel production for the Hollandse Kust Noord topside. The pieces that have been cut, nodes and PRSs, are the first building blocks for the top. Steel production will now be continued at the Smulders sites in Arendonk and Balen.
